Would this work as a lens hood option?

So I've been reading all of the lenshood sagas and searching ebay for something resembling a deal or fast delivery. Like you all...nada. So, I went through my old camera bag looking for filters to pirate...nothing. Then I came across my old Rollei TLR bayonet 1 Germany hood. Beautiful, pristine. Held it in front of the camera and thought....OOOO beautiful...and if I cleared the lens for Macro...it's small enough that it certainly doesn't block the finder.

So here's the question...would this work?

    1. Remove current X100 ring.
    2. Buy step up 49mm to 52mm ring
    3. Screw in step up ring.
    4. Buy 52mm to Bayonet 1 adapter.
    5. Screw in 52mm ring.
    5. Attach hood to bayonet
    6. Be awesome.

Now I'm sure I'm leaving something stupid out....like male/female threading, but if not...what do you think oh geniuses of the board.

If you're not looking to attach any filters, I can't see why this wouldn't work. The only hangup you might have is if the bayonet adaptor doesn't work when reverse threaded (you'll have to put it on backwards).

Thanks Christopher. The bayonet seems to be the right threading. I'm more worried about the threading of the step up ring. What the heck...at a fraction of the cost, it's worth a shot. I'll send photos if it ends up working out. If not...I'll still probably have a two month wait before the ebay hoods start going into production.

I ordered one of the eBay cloned versions of the Fuji lens hood, it shipped the same day. I suspect their shipping estimates were conservative, my last package from China to the US only took 8 days.

really? Wow. Well maybe I should just forego this experiment then. Did you receive it yet?

They just hit the market on Thursday, I ordered mine that night and it shipped out a few hours later. I will likely receive it on Friday, if it's as fast as my last shipment.

I can't wait to hear about the quality and fit when you get it.Just to see if the hood would work...I ordered the step up ring and bayonet adapter today. I think they said it should arrive Friday as well. Perhaps we can start a thread called dueling lenshoods.

Haha, sounds good, I'm curious to see your solution! I'll be posting a photo review of the new cloned X00 hood once it arrives.

Hi Chris, you can start the thread once it arrives. I will add to your thread once I done with mine too.
