If the camera has been properly looked after and is working perfectly, used is fine.

Low shutter click X100 cameras in good condition are going about 80% of new price on eBay. There is always plenty bids.

Would ebay be more or less trust worthy then B&H?

Why would it not be? You check seller details before you buy.

Where I live - Scotland, two retailers I use offer a one year warranty with second - hand gear, so it's worry free. I don't know about others, but it would be worth asking about it.
  • It's about your level of comfort. There is risk involved, obviously, although I think there is a very comparable amount of risk buying new from the Manufacturer.

Side story: I bought a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS Mk II ($2,500 lens) used for just under $2k. Was in perfect condition. I ... meaning me. Dropped it. Yup. Damaged. Brought it to Canon and as it was less than one year old, it still fell under warranty and they fixed it completely free. Now Canon may be an exception. But what's your comfort level.

Do you feel comfortable saving $ to buy used? If so, go for it. If not, (and there are plenty that don't) then pay more for it so there'll always be gear for those of us who actually prefer to buy used. It's like a free trial, really. I've bought equipment used that I wondered if I would like, and if you watch and get a decent deal on it, you can almost always get all of your money back if you don't like the gear. I've bought some beater gear that I had to sell and replace with mint gear, because I fell in love with it! ;)
  • p.s. - If you buy used, I prefer User boards like this one over places like B&H. You can usually get a better deal and if the person has been on the board for a while, there is a greater level of comfort.
