X-Pro 1 Paint chips

    Hey everyone,

Go easy on me - first post here!

Anyhow, I have come from the house of Canon to a fuji for the first time- my X-Pro 1 serving as a less invasive camera than my others. However, as much as I love it (and hate the fact there is still no RAW support in LR or Aperture) there is one thing I am disappointed about.

I've had my X-Pro 1 for a month, and the paint on the bottom of the camera has already chipped off. I'm not particularly bothered- as I use this as a tool for photography, but it is disappointing as I try hard to keep my equipment in mint condition!

    Anyone else having this issue?

    Geoff.

Same here, the paint is chipped off at the bottom of my 2 day-old X-Pro1. And a bit on the lens barrel. Somewhat disappointed, considering premium price.

Damn guys what kind of condition were you using it in? Maybe we should all cover our cameras in gaffers tape to help preserve the paint haha

    Hey Geoff,
I posted pictures on dpreview. It seems that its just me who is concern. Hope it's only a quality control issue. Cheers

Mine chipped off the side of my lcd screen the first day i used it - and i didn't bang or hit it on anything so no idea how it got there. My lens cap got a huge dent on its first drop (of 1m high) while my nikon lens caps have been perfect despite drops over years... Seems like a quality problem.

It doesn't really bother me hugely- I will probably get a case for it. This is my first fuji shooter and I was expecting better QC

I've owned two black Leica Ms. The black chipped off on both over time, exposing the bronze underbody. Not terribly unusual. Given that Fuji has been blatantly copying the Leica aesthetic, if that included a similar black enamel, no wonder...

Personally, I like to look of a well worn camera almost as much as the look of a well worn hat or guitar. My old Canon Ftb looks so classic with all it's wear. I say, let'er chip!

Perhaps they should anodize the metal for these cameras....the way they do cooking pans and woks?

Same here. My lens cap dented from a tiny fall. Amazing that it was not designed better.

THe lens cap is flimsy, lets not be surprised it dents when you drop it.

Don't drop it, or dont use it, but get over it FFS.

Do you guys mean lens "cap" or do you mean the lens hood? I thought the caps were plastic. The hoods are metal, which probably would dent - unlike most other SLR lens hoods which are made from plastic as far as I am aware (don't use Nikon, but doubt they are different)

I managed to scratch the soft screen surface :-/. And not just once. Never did on my Canon that have much more mileage on it.

Ok, that's a story I didn't want to hear. I've used numerous digital cameras, all of them Canon, and have never scratched the screen so I've never worried about a screen protector. Now you're telling me the X100 has a softer screen than a Canon? Oh, my. Something else for me to be paranoid about. Maybe a screen protector is in order. Any suggestions?

Got a really simple clear film screen on Amazon for the Xpro1 (and any other cam with a 3" screen). Costs very little, easy to replace, peels off when you don't need it. Still wish it had gorilla glass though.

At least the Xpro1 hoods can be straightened out if they get bent ;)

I tried a stick-on film screen on my first digital camera and because I carry the camera on a strap across my body I am constantly brushing the camera across my body to take pictures I found I would also brush off the screen protector. (Hope this all makes sense). Perhaps the newer film sticks better.
