Fujifilm X100 Firmware 1.30 Update Now Available

    Fujifilm today released firmware version 1.30 for the Finepix X100, offering support for the new WCL-X100 wide conversion lens, and new operational features. They offer the following details:

    1. New function for the WIDE CONVERSION LENS WCL-X100 is added to the shooting menu. The function for the WCL-X100 can also be allocated to "Fn/RAW" button.
    2. Hold the "AE/AF LOCK" when changing to OVF after one of 25 focus points(inner portion of 49 focus points) is selected in EVF or LCD.
      "AE/AF LOCK" will be canceled when changing to OVF after one of 25 focus points (outer portion of 49 focus points) is selected in EVF or LCD. In this case, you need to use EVF or LCD to hold the "AE/AF LOCK".
    3. Change of "MIN. SHUTTER SPEED" setting in "ISO AUTO CONTROL" of the shooting menu will be reflected without OFF/ON operation.

    How To Upgrade Your X100 The Easy Way


    1. Insert a fully charged battery into your X100
    2. Format your SD card in your camera. (Backup your data first, of course.)
    3. Download the FPUPDATE.DAT file from Fujifilm's global website
    4. Connect your SD card to your computer, either with a card reader or with your USB cable
    5. Copy the FPUPDATE.DAT file to the root directory of the SD card, then put it in your camera
    6. Turn the camera on while holding down the [BACK] button to start the firmware update process. Follow the onscreen instructions.

    You don't actually need to run the .EXE or .DMG transfer software, it simply copies the .DAT file to the SD card. Be sure your battery is 100% charged before starting the update. The upgrade should take about 90 seconds.

    Once the firmware upgrade is complete, the camera will instruct you to turn it off. After you power the camera back on you'll need to set it up again starting with the date and time, and all of your custom settings will need to be reset. Be sure to write down your custom settings if you don't remember them!

    If your camera is reporting your firmware upgrade version is not 1.30, you may be using an older firmware upgrade file. Be sure to delete or rename any existing versions of the FPUPDATE.DAT file on your computer before downloading the new firmware file, or else you computer may inadvertently rename the firmware file.

    I've updated and don't see much difference from 1.21. I realize this update was primarily for the Wide Conversion Lens but there were other bug fixes as noted by Fuji. I've just not stumbled to any other changes. Why oh why won't they give me a direct method to toggle on/off the ISO Auto control? It's not like we've been begging for this. At least send us a "it can't be done" message on a board somewhere.

    Good point by gafer. then again. Don't trust auto ISO that much either so I don't it on as well.

    Key question: Will you buy the wide angle lens adaptor?

    That adaptor is only 0.8X. (35 and 28 are nearly identical)
    If it was 0.5X, it would be more attractive for me.

    What did the new focus point function bring? The whole "Hold the "AE/AF LOCK" when changing to OVF…" thing. I might be partially asleep this week but I don't immediately *get* it :-/

    As for the conversion lens. I shall sit in hope of them giving us a 50mm as I'm going through a heavy Portraiture phase :)

    The AE/AF lock behavior change is about preserving your AE/AF lock setting when going from EVF to OVF. Before this patch, it was never preserved. You always had to set a focus point again, if you shot in this mode. Now, you only have to do this if the focus point set was in the "outer" ones. I assume that's because not all focus points are shown in the OVF, only the innermost ones?

    Does this upgrade bring any improvement outside of the wide angle lens setting and focus lock behaviour?

    28mm doesn't seem like that much different than 35, but it's pretty noticeable. In most cases, I think it's *just enough* to be very useful. I think 0.5x would be excessive, but 0.7 would be welcome.



    Now, I just wish it was more like $249.
