Long start up time

I'm having trouble with long start up time (7-8 seconds) with my x-pro1.
All of a sudden this happened so I formatted the memory card, thinking that might solve it.
It got a few seconds better but then it got worse again.
The memory card is a brand new san-disk 16gb class 10 card and I've updated the firmware a few months ago.
    What to do?

Have you checked whether the problem persists if you use another memory card?

Have you been using a Mac or an iPad? They write some form of files to the SD card when you insert it to transfer your pictures. Fuji cameras don't seem to like that, hence the longer start times. Formatting the card in camera should cure it and then remember to flick the lock switch next time you download pics.

Does the lock switch cure the problem too? I've been avoiding using my ipad to download pics solely because it takes like a whole minute for the camera to even start up so I could format it. I have no issues formatting since I've grown the habit the last couple of years to backup then format everytime I stop shooting. The problem is loading photos to ipad then waiting 2 minutes just to format it for me

Yeah it should do - because when the card is locked the iPad can't write any files to it, so there's nothing for the camera to complain about when you put the card back in (just remember to unlock). That's my experience, anyway.

I have an iPad, Macbook and Mac desktop, and have never experienced any of the problems noted here. On one occasion that my camera started slowing down, I took out the card, turned the camera on (now using internal memory) and formatted the internal storage. Then replaced the card. Difference was like night and day. YMMV

Well, my mileage does vary. If I put (by mistake) an unlocked card in my iPad, then, when re-inserted into the X10, it will always cause my X10 to take about 10 secs to boot up, whereas a locked card that's been in the iPad has no effect on the boot time of the X10 when back in (so long as I remember to unlock it again).

I've not tried your internal memory format solution - maybe that would do the trick, but there seems to be a consensus that Apple products (Macs, iPads) write files to SD cards that Fuji cameras don't like, hence slower boot times.

Thanks p3dro, that did the trick!
Now I writeprotect my cards everytime they go into the iPad

Unlike the X100 or X10, the X-Pro1 does not have (or provide access to) internal memory. So, the only remaining solution is to write-protect your SD card whenever it is coming close to a Mac.

And if the card got "infected" with an extraneous file, format it in-camera and you'll be good to go again.
