iPhoto 08

I am new to digital photography and just start using iPhoto (08) on my MacBook Pro to organize and edit photos (taken by a X10). For a start I just want to achieve the following tasks:-

    1. Add a border (or picture frame) to my photos with the borders' sizes and colours that could be adjusted or selected,

    2. I want to put my name ( sort of like watermark, copyright thing) on a corner of the photos
    (example: http://500px.com/photo/7926653),

    3. Resize the photos.

Do any of you use iPhoto and can I achieve the above tasks by using it? And how to? If not, is there any freeware out there that can do these on a Mac (my OS is 10.6.8) ?

Besides, is Flickr a good site to get my photos online ? How about 500px.com ?

Any suggestion is welcome. Thank you for your advice.

can't say about the flickR vs 500px, I knew and used flickR, I continued with it... it is a good place to put your photos, I guess 500px as well!

as of the software, I would strongly recommend that you move to Aperture if you like iPhoto. Aperture has an export feature, you can add watermarks, choose the size of the picture and all but moreover, you can tweak your pictures way waaay better than with iPhoto. Ok only thing, iPhoto is simpler to use, but you feel rapidly limited with it.

So I did not answer your questions I'm sorry hehe

    Hi PiTiLeZarD,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I've just found out Picasa could add watermarks. Can Aperture add picture frames to photos? I really need this.

Edit photos in Flickr using Aviary to add water mark and frame. If you want to by software Lightroom is more popular than aperture and has more features and more update support for cameras. apple suck at on time support for new camera.

    Hi RogerRabbit,

Must I join Flickr first to apply these features, or is this Aviary a downloadable app for Mac?

Its not in Apple's court to add support for cameras, its in the camera manufacturers court to speak to the software houses.
That asides, I can't see why you'd want to add picture frames, but no Aperture won't do that ( no idea about lightroom as I abhor Adobes UI and price). I wouldn't personally recommend Picasa as the interface is horrendous imho.
If you really want to add frames you'll probably need to do it in photoshop or find an app that specifically does that.
Aperture does watermarks (but for the love of god please keep the subtle).
I would suggest FLickr over 500px.

You can add borders in aperture using "ApertureBorderFX"

I have ended up to fulfill my tasks (adding border and putting copyright notice) by downloading the donation-ware Border FX plugin for iPhoto and upgrading my iPhoto 08 to 11 (as Border FX does not support 08 version). Still learning how to add watermark though.

Good that this way I do not have to spend much as I am not sure how serious I would get into photo editing yet.

    Cheers !
