Crop/Frame lines moving with firmware v1.10

X-Pro1 + XF35mm .. just upgraded to v1.10.. now when using the OVF, on a half-shutter depress, the crop/framing rectangle moves in a south-east direction by a couple of centimetres. The end picture is taken with the frame in its second position - the one it has moved to. Are we really meant to compose an image only after hitting the shutter half-way? I want to compose the image, then think about using the shutter, thanks very much.

Anyone else seeing this? It didn't do it before. What is it all about Fuji? Don't tell me this is a 'feature.' This camera is frustrating enough to use at the best of times (when is the AF really going to be sorted?!) and it's now got worse....

Do you mean Optical View (OVF) rather than Electronic View (EVF)?

In OVF the square line quite correctly moves to compensate for the parallax of the viewer being physically away from the lens. It is also still only an 'estimate'...

The frame lines move to correct for parallax.

The OVF that you are looking through is not through the lens so in order to help with the user's framing, it will move the framelines to approximate on how the shot will look after you take the shot. The end picture will be the same no matter where the framelines are...

It's more or less a feature because it helps with composition. You can turn it off in the menu but the parallax error is pretty high especially on the 35.

The way I use it is by composing the image after I focus and meter, which is done by half pressing the shutter. So I will find my subject, use the center to focus/meter for the subject and then after the framelines move, I compose the shot.

The camera can't show the corrected frame until focus is achieved because the corrected frame is dependant on parallax error, which is turn is affected by the distance of the focus point from the lens.

For the record, the X-Pro always did this. You may not have noticed it until the firmware update; firmware updates reset your settings.

@elithrar is right, it always had this functionality. However I think that it used to be turned off by default, whereas 1.10 has it turned on by default - may be wrong though...

In its default state, independently of which firmware version is used, only the viewfinder frame is moved to correct for parallax error - not the AF measurement frame. You need to specifically enable the "corrected AF frame" option to have the AF frame move as well.

I strongly recommend activating this menu option for better AF accuracy when using the optical viewfinder. Unfortunately, this option is not enabled by default - but it really should.
