A Mode now M Mode!

I've been loving the X100 for months. But now, over the past several days, when I am shooting in Aperture Priority mode (what I usually use), though I have it set at "A" the viewfinder displays "M" and, indeed, I seem to be in Manual mode. It seems somewhat intermittent. Once it has this problem, nothing seems to get it back on track. But I just turned it on and it was back in A. Anybody have this problem? Know a fix? Or is back to Fuji again? I am not sure about a camera that only works for 4-5 months without something going wrong. I have had the SAB issue twice and gotten it fixed. My Nikons, P&S Canons, Lumix, etc. took all sorts of abuse and shot away happily for years. In fact, I have NEVER had a Nikon repaired that I can recall and I have had about 20! Because of the SAB issue with my X100, I feel I could NEVER travel with it alone. So I have the XPro1 as well. WIll I be sending it back and back and back? Are these Fujis high-strung thoroughbreds that are delicate and need to be coddled or just displayed and not used in the real world?
  • I'd give it a reset before doing anything else.
  • did you try that & did it make a difference? I was going to say the next thing to do might be to 're-format' by loading the latest firmware update again.

Something I'm running up against with these X cameras is a constant awareness of how much computing is going on. I know that's the case with any digital, but with the others I've had it's always been 'out of sight, out of mind', and the Fuji operating system strikes me as being more windows than apple. I'm probably going to catch hell for that.

I did a reset and so far, so good, but I haven't been using it much the past day (had the XPro1 out to a lighthouse yesterday). As for Mac vs. Windows, well, let me just say that if something seems a bit kludgy and inelegant, I think Windows. If it is seamless and elegant, I think Mac. Imagine if Fuji & Apple teamed up! Imagine what kind of camera THAT marriage would produce!

Sent the X100 off to Fuji today for repair. Let's hope they solve the problem. They are usually quick and nice in NJ. Tough to love a camera that has had so many problems, but I do. I am afraid I may have a lemon.
