x100 started overexposing (not SAB!)

    Hello,

Since yesterday my x100 started horribly overexposing pretty much every single shot on wide aperture (<5.6). To my eye, its +2/+3 exposures.<br />
I've been using the camera pretty much every single day for last year so I've noticed that right away. I did check the blades and it looks as they're fine; so it seems to not be sticky aperture blades problem. Just looks like suddenly exposure meter got completely screwed up.

If I use M mode it's all good, however A, P or fully automated it overexposes.

Anyone came across this before? How did you deal with that? Fuji service? I already tried reseting it and firmware upgrade...

    Regards,
    B

Do you have Auto ISO on and are running on firmware 1.20/1.21/1.30?

I have noticed this problem with my 1+ year old camera when Auto ISO is on, but on other apertures. I am also getting underexposure problems especially when outdoors in bright sun light. This all seem to go away when I disable Auto ISO on firmware 1.30.

When I reverted back to firmware 1.13, this problem disappeared it seems. Try that and see if it makes any difference for you?

No Auto-ISO but I'll try firmware downgrade. I've just 4 weeks warranty so gonna have to make my mind quick and probably will send it to Fuji to have it checked anyway. Hopefully they'll be able to get it back to me before my holiday in three weeks time (Olympics...)

Might be wrong, but not sure if you can downgrade...

EDIT - although it appears you can if @bart613 did it! Sorry, not reading the post fully...

Just wondering what where the EV compensation number was for those shots in A,S and P....if EV is at +2 and +3 and nothing is wrong in M, that is the logical conclusion that the EV dial was moved. Happened to me too many times.

    WilzWorks7: 0 EV compensation :/
  • Try using ISO set to 200 with Auto ISO and make sure you have Dynamic Range set to Auto - do you still get the same results?

My was doing something similar and was not due to SAB. I sent it in and they replaced the lens and now it's good to go.

I had exactly the same problem when I upgraded to firmware 1.30. Fuji replaced the lens assembly and all was good for about a month until the problem returned. Long story short I got a new camera. I hope you got it back for the Olympics.

I have to say, the first time I left it with Fuji, I explained that I was going on holiday in 1 weeks time and all credit to them 6 days later I got a call to say it was ready to pick up! There is something very emotional about this camera. I really missed it both times it had problems and couldn't wait to get it back. I've been shooting with a D700 for four years and it has never had the slightest glitch but I'm pretty sure if it did I wouldn't feel the same sense of loss.

I just got my x100 back. They changed the whole lens and adjusted Macro focus (?!).

It exposes ideally again - I just checked. Also noticed new lens is slightly noisier but I guess that's because its slightly different mechanism.

Very happy, especially holiday is just 8 days away!
  • Can only agree that it is very easy for the EV adjustment wheel to get turned around. You have to check it constantly. I've been caught out myself by this.
