Optical Viewfinder Blurry on my X-10

I have been happily using my X-10 for about five months now and went to take some photos today only to find that that the OVF is blurry until you change the focal lenght to about 90mm or more. Once you go past this length it appears fine but at lesser lengths it is very blurry to the point that it is unusable. Help!

Have you adjusted the diopter? that little wheel thingy next to the viewfinder window?

Yes I was hoping it was just that but it did not resolve the problem.
  • Moisture sometimes clouds view finders, but that doesn't seem to explain it working at beyond 90mm?? strange? I wonder if electronics are involved?

Most likely something optical has gotten knocked out of alignment. Unfortunately this may be a send-it-to-Fuji situation. Have you tried giving it a solid tap against the heel of your hand?

I have the same problem and my local camera shop said I caused it with impact damage. I was hoping for a warranty repair but was told otherwise. :-(

In fact, mine is blurry all the way until the longest focal length. I don't even have the benefit of in-focus OVF from 90-112.

At this point I need to contact Fuji to send it in. Can anyone tell me how I go about this? I live in Oregon

I brought mine back to the camera shop where I purchased it. If you bought it online, I would suggest calling the 800 number for Fuji service and they will send you a postage paid box to send it to them in.

I have the same issue. I thought it was the normal behavior for the OVF! :)
Uhm… let's contact fuji one more time.
  • I had this same problem after owning it for a month. I took it back to the store but they have no more X10s in. I'm wondering whether to get another one or find a new camera elsewhere? Should I stick with the x10? I hope it's not going to be more trouble than it's worth.

It looks to me like the X10 will be replaced at Photokina. As with the X100 "Discontinued" story, one of the UK's largest retailers (John Lewis) has taken both the X100 AND X10 off their website. The replacements for new sensors stop in September, same time as Photokina - seems to me to be adding up to something...

For this and other issues I'm seriously thinking about returning it and waiting for the X20.
It's a great camera, this for sure, but it's their first attempt. There are too many minor issue to call it THE compact camera for the enthusiasts.

  • There are a few X10s left at John Lewis if you call their customer services. It's got to still be a bargain at £345 compared to equivalent compacts.
EDIT: My new one is a 21N serial.

Yeah, mine was £350 from them a couple of months back and it's issue free (22N Serial). Great camera! It's just a shame no-one ever makes something that will work for everyone, every time something looks promising it turns out it doesn't do something or other well. For what it is the X10 is very good.

I've had my X10 for about 3 months now and the same issue has started happening the last few days as pjmsj21 describes - "OVF is blurry until you change the focal length to about 90mm or more" . Anyone successfully bring this up with Fujifilm?

    Hi Everyone,
I know the posts here are a few months back, but today I encountered the same blurred OVF problem with my x10 camera after about a year of using it. I'm wondering if anyone was able to fix/resolve the problem and if so, how did he go about fixing it. Thanks and hope someone can help me arrive at the best solution.
    Thanks!

I had exactly the same problem.

I recently got it fixed, and it took one day no spare parts, and cost $40. Some people had told me I would have to replace the sensor but this proved to be codswallop.

I used a camera repair man here in Cambodia. I very much doubt you live in Cambodia .
  • Wow, somebody else who uses the term 'codswallop'.
