X-Pro 1: Favorite Accessories (Mine and Yours)

I am a recent (albeit super stoked) owner of the X-Pro1 and am so happy with it. I bought two of the three available lenses (18mm and 35mm) and am integrating the rest of my gear, grip, and accessories into a completely new workflow (I emigrated from DSLR - Nikon D700).

My favorite couple of accessories are pictured below - simple wrist strap, Heliopan circular polarizing filter, and PocketWizards.

What are your favorite add-ons, accessories, tools, toys, etc. you use with your X-Pro1?

PS - My 'lil X10 outfitted with a PocketWizard firing Nikon speedlights was more than happy to take this photo of my X-Pro1 outfitted with the above-mentioned cladding. . .

Having infamously pimped out my X10 beyond all comprehension, Im gonna say the X-Pro 1 grip has so far pleased me the most. But I do have Gariz soft release coming.. ;-)

I'm with @franco - got the grip and that is about it, apart from the Snapr strap system, but this is a bit generic to be classed as a X-Pro1 accessory I guess...

Got the grip, the red BOP MatchTechnical, a wrist strap fixed in the tripod screw and an EF-42 flash. The PocketWizards is way too expensive for me, I'll go with the cheap versions ;-)

Cool - your comments raise a few questions.

Is the BOP just cosmetic or is there function to it?

And the grip - is it worth it? Is it an improvement in the handling of the camera? I ask because having shot DSLR I am used to being able to just grab my camera without feeling like I am going to push buttons. I have average sized hands (if there is such a thing) and would like to know your thoughts on the "handling" of the camera with the grip.

    Thanks for any insights . . .

    Hey poppa_d,

Hope youre having fun with it! My opinion? Yeah, the grip is worth it. I have average hands too, and I love the way it handles. Its a pain changing batteries/cards, but worth the extra grief. I find my thumb now rests where it should, rather than on the Q button!
As for the BOP - Im waiting for similar in the mail - but on my X10 it really made a difference. It seems (to me anyway) that a softer, more even pressure on a wider plate did improve focus performance. Im hoping its the case on the X-Pro 1 too. It was the first thing I ordered.
    Happy Shooting.

Thanks for the feedback. I have to admit I did wonder about the grip with regards to the battery/card door. I shoot with some frequency on a tripod and do on-the-fly editing on my iPad during the shoot and as it is I find it frustrating that I cannot get to the card without taking the camera off the tripod. The grip, no doubt, would aggravate that already frustrating situation.

On the other hand, if I view it as an on/off accessory and only use it when handholding the camera, I may find more pleasure in the grabbing aspect as I seriously always feel like I am changing settings/pressing buttons if I am not very particular about how I grab my camera.

Hmmm . . . now that I think about this more, I wonder if I can USB directly from the camera to the iPad instead of pulling the card? More testing tonight! :-)

Success! USB wire directly from camera to iPad works! This is great news if you are a tripod shooter/iPad editor. No more removing the camera from the tripod every time to access the SD card.

So, back to the discussion . . . your favorite accessories?
  • Try using an eye-fi card, it will wirelessly send photos direct to your iPad , works well for me and you never have to remove the card. Sold my Canon 5Dmkii and 7D and bought complete outfit with 2 bodies , can't believe IQ and really enjoying my photography again.Grip is mot definitely worthwhile .

Does "mot" = most or not?

I gave a lot of thought to the eye-fi but was leery of it. Cost and uncertainty of reliability. Has it ever not worked for you?

    Thanks.

I use the Eye-Fi card sometimes (to my computer) and it can be a real help - when it works. Sometimes the whole system seems to go to sleep, and sometimes it's all dandy and working great. The latest software update seems to have stabilized it slightly, and I think it also helps to turn off all online activity. The card dedicated for iPhone/iPad isn't that expensive, so it might vary well be worth a try. The important thing of course, is to have a device with a strong and stable WiFi-signal.
