Clarification about highlights and shadows recovery settings
  • Despite having read both the manual and an X10 ebook guide, I'm still a bit confused about highlight and shadow tones settings.
I set the camera in my primary language so just talk about the different values as the first on the top and the latest at the bottom.

My intention is to preserve a lot of detail in the highlights and a good amount of detail in the shadow (at the cost of a small amount of increased shadow noise).
My highlight setting is the last one (may be "soft" in English), my shadows setting is the second-last (may be "medium soft" in English).

Is it correct for my purposes?
What's your advice in this aspect?

    Thank you in advance. :)
  • My current set up for city trips is this:

RAW + JPG medium Astia (700 shots on a 16Gb card)
    P mode
    ISO 200
    AF still & area
Highlights low too avoid burning the photo
Exposure -1/3, but I change it according to the situation
    DR 200
    IS on in mode 2

Provia setting can help too diminishing the contrast, but I like the warmer colors of Astia.

I did not play with shadows settings yet.
