Soft release/case choice
  • I had a member recommend me te thumbs up grip (he used it on him M9, posh git ;)). I can't justify the expense at the mo but it got us talking about soft release buttons...

I found it really improved my personal handling of the camera but it came with 2 big downsides, firstly it meant that the Fuji ever read case, when closed would push the shutter button. I never remember to turn the camera of, so I was getting stacks of shots of the inside of the case and finding battery power was disapearing! Secondly the bloody thing came unscrewed and disappeared when I was out walking te dogs one day.
I suppose I'm wondering if anyone knows of a particular soft release that sits a little lower/isn't effected by the fuji case. There are hundreds of the things on eBay, and although cheap... I can't justify trying all of them! Alternatively, is there a different ERC that might offer less problems with a soft release?
It's a bit of a long shot this one I feel, I'm just hoping one of you may have had a similar issue and found a solution?

Yes I would like to have one too. But the one mentioned in the article is £4.90! It's really really funny! (I know it's not even the most expensive)
Please can you post the link to a normal priced one, if any?

  • I paid $18 for mine, and about $6 shipping, and it was worth every penny. Spending just 2 percent of the cost of the camera seems well worth it to me.
  • What cases do you use?
  • I don't use a case, but the soft release I use is about the lowest profile you can get:

I am quite paranoid about losing it and have gotten in the habit of checking that it is screwed in tight frequently when out shooting, which is no big deal as it has become automatic.

I did a couple hours of street shooting recently with a cable shutter release, then removed it to shoot normally, but had left the soft release at home for safe-keeping & boy, did I miss it! The shutter release felt totally strange without it.

I had the same soft release. Emphasis on "had". I lost it the first time I was out shooting. In hindsight, I should have tucked it away after the second time it had fallen off the camera and figured out a way to keep it screwed in when I got home. I really liked this release but I don't think that the threads are long enough, or the right diameter, to keep it firmly affixed to the camera.
  • I use the 'Bop' from Match Technical and it feels very secure. People have mentioned on here about using plumbers tape and nail polish to secure it, but mine feels extremely secure just screwed in tight.

i got this problem too....i still figure out what's the solution to fit my Lady bug soft release attach with x100 to fit into full leather case, to avoid long term depressed of shutter....

forget about half case, i travel frequently, so full case protection is to help avoid scratch on my baby x100

Match Technical Red Bip, never had a problem with it coming loose, it fits tightly.
LensMate thumbs-up, inexpensive and the best design I've seen, it hugs the EV dial:
