Exposure Compensation not working in Manual mode
  • Hello everyone,

I was trying to exposure compensation on Manual mode, and unfortunately it did not record the compensation even if I had the dial on +1 or +2, etc.

On Aperture priority, it worked fine. And automatic.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
  • That's what manual mode is about, you compensate exposure with your aperture value and/or shutter speed.

  • Interesting... because you can adjust your exposure compensation on all other manually driven digital cameras. And the X100 manual says you can do it for some fine tuning...
  • That's what I find weird: the EV values will not be correct if you could adjust your exposure without adjusting aperture or shutter speed. In A-mode the exposure compensation is done with the shutter speed (because you want you aperture to be a certain value) and in S-mode the aperture gets changed because you choose the shutter speed. In manual you want the control over both: why shoot manual when you don't want that?
    ;-)
My DSLRs have no exposure compensation in manual (Canon EOS 1ds MkII and MkIII) by the way. The way I expect it to be.

  • Ah yes... might have just been an oversight! You can actually adjust your EV values on a DSLR, but it will not affect your final result... oops!
