Tech Radar has a hands-on preview of the upcoming Fujifilm X-S1, check it out. They sound quite pleased with the build quality, it's very sturdy, particularly the metal lens barrel. It's interesting to hear that it's as large as a Canon Rebel body, I was expecting it to be a mini DSLR.

The Fuji Guys with Fujifilm Canada have also posted a hands on preview video for the X-S1

Doesn't interest me whatsoever. Got rid of my DSLRs because of Fuji's X10 & X100s. No way am I going back to lugging bricks & swapping out glass every other shot.

I dont get it with this camera... the sensor is way too small for a camera of this size... if I have to lug a big camera around i want it to have a big sensor under the hood.

Matt, thanks for the correction. Still, if it's the size of a Canon Rebel (and far uglier than a Rebel, IMHO), it occupies an entirely different world than the one that attracted most of us to the X10s and X100s. The mere fact that it's a Fuji and branded with an X does not negate the fact that we're dealing with opposite poles here: elegance and wonderful ergonomics versus another clunky Canon clone.

I like the fold-out screen, but i was surprised to read it doesn't have an optical viewfinder..which makes the fake DSLR hump on top even more ridiculous :p

Seems weird to brand it as an X-series camera since it just looks like a run-of-the-mill bridge camera that mimics a DSLR in appearence.

Frankly, the thing looks like a 2005 design that's just been dusted off (& modified slightly w/ that fold-out screen). It's the antithesis of the design aesthetic of the X10 & X100. Obviously very different Fuji designers worked on these cameras.

I think many who are new to the DSLR world would be better off with this camera, rather then a entry-dslr. I would without doubt recommend this for a mom or grandmother who are used to compact cameraes but wants to get on the DSLR-wave.

This camera is obvoiusly not for us who, but for those who wants to step up from compact cameraes because they believe bigger means better when it comes to quality

We who have some experience are having a gift coming in the beginning of 2012

I thought it was peculiar that Fujifilm included this camera in their X Series, it doesn't have most of the traits that attracted us to the X100 or X10. It seems they're using the X series as a mark for their most premium of cameras, even if they're in different segments.

I wasn't sure if our community was the right fit for future and potential X-S1 owners, but there does seem to be some interest. If anything it shares a lot with the X10, and certainly the firmware is similar to the X10 and X100.

It doesn't ship for another month or two, I guess we'll just wait and see how it does :)

I think people may be misinterpreting what the X series is to Fuji.
From what I have read the X series is to be Fujis premium range of cameras with the emphasis on range. Surely the XS-1 qualifies as a premium camera in it's class. Essentially it's a X10 sensor, logic and controls (sensor and logic being class leading) plus a class leading lens and video function. Compare the XS-1 with say the Panasonic FZ series and the XS-1 I suspect will belt the Panasonic camera in image quality.
Think of all the sport grounds that you can't get into with anything more than a 200mm DSLR lens and imagine the shots that you will get with 600mm equiv on the XS-1 because it's "only a amateur camera and I can't change lenses like you can on those pro ones." :)

I wonder if event organisers will see the difference tho. It looks like a DSLR. I think interchangeable lenders might be a subtlety.

    They never query Panasonic FZ's.
  • As a user of the Fuji X100 and X10, I am very impressed with the XS1 which I have added to my collection. It has the aura of the 'X' brand and does an excellent job.

I have the Xs1 and it is a great camera. High quality and reallly nice pictures. I am really suprised that the sensor can do what it can given it's size. It is very adaquate. Some people don't understand this camera. I did not either.. But you see you get all the ranges from supermacro to superzoom and given the price and the versitility it does things very well. The build quality is superb. At first I thought the glass was not sharp enough but I started working with the camera in terms of experience and settings. It is just fine really considering the fact that it is a lens system that goes from 1cm macro to 620mm. YOu really cannot compare this camera to anything else. A seperate catagory really. I mean Leica has a similar concept but the small sensor scares me. I have had other high zoom pocket cameras in the small point and shoot size and this thing blows them away. The camera is really not all that big since the eronomics are so good. Also people can go on the myfinepix website and review tons of galleries with all the fuji cameras. Every time I pick up this camera I am pleased to do so and I am very pleased with the results. Actually I am ,pretty shocked at what the camera can produce given the nature of the concept and the price. It seems that most people I have dialoged with that have had the camera for a while have great things to say about it. Most negatives come from those that don't have it and are looking at specs or those that had it for a couple of days and did not figure it out. Buying cameras is about comprimises and it does not matter what you are buying that will be the case.

    Namaste
