I presume the vignetting is added-on? Great tones, nice light balance, rich blacks. It's a matter of taste, but the vignetting is too obvious for mine--and would have been were you shooting a 1930s lens. It's an effect but one I try to use lightly. Otherwise, nice work
  • You're right on the vignette; it was too much and works in some compositions but not in every one.

Thank you for your constructive feedback!

the kids shots are great, the one which doesn't work for me is the chair - too many greys, i feel it lacks the blk/wht contrast to give it the punch a good blk/wht needs. maybe also because i found it a bit busy distracting

The skeletal leaf is marvelous. In this case I would have darkened the lefthand stalk is focus a viewer's attention on the leaf itself.

I like your photos, but is there any chance you could include them NOT full size - it took an age for the page to load and even though (eventually) my browser resized them, they have hogged a lot of memory and the page is jirky...

From a B&W perspective, the kid on the wall and the abstract shot both work best for me - good tone and contrast.

  • Thanks for your comments steve1401 and I'm sorry for the big size; I'll replace them with smaller versions but I thought it was better for viewing and I realized the resizing is not a preview with a link to the high resolution version.

    No need to apologise :-)

I don't know which image host you use, but you can always make a smaller image appear on the page, which links to the full size one - it's easy with Flickr as Flickr has a handy code generator tool to give you the code, see below:

EDIT - just realised I have turned off full size viewing in Flickr, but principle applies :-)

Great shot´s. But I also must say that the vignette is just a little to obvious.
What I tend to do with BW shots is to convert them in LR3 and play with the red, green and blue myself instead of LR3 managing this automatically.
I love the kids picture on the skateboard. Did you use a fill in flash on this one?
    Keep up the great shots.

Thanks for your time reviewing my photos and great feeback.

You're right on the vignette, I have to stop adding that effect and apply only for those shots.

For the kids I used off-camera flash (Metz 28AF3-N), ND filter on and shutter speed above 1000

Great shots of the Cobra, although I do like the color ones you added better. The Red is just damn sexy on this car.
  • They are very nice images. Keep them coming...

Are you shooting in B&W or converting later? If conv, then how much PP are you doing to the images?

    Thanks for your positive feedback!

I shoot RAW+jpg then Silver Efex 2 Pro in Aperture. In this case I only applied High Structure preset at 30%. I'm learning a lot shooting in B&W so checking the JPG gives me instant feedback.
