Not too long ago I enjoyed the beautiful national parks in Canada. I decided to leave all my bulky dSLR stuff at home and travel light with the X100. Hope you like them!

    Thanks all!

Some tips.. Mh.. Composition is of course most important. Next to that, I shoot in RAW and make sure the exposure is spot on and the histogram is all filled up, so I have the most 'room' in post processing.
Post processing is 100% lightroom. Love that program!

If you want to know more, let me know! :)

  • Nice stuff. Seriously nice. Absolutely love #19. Pristine is the word that comes to mind. And yes, you can keep posting photos from this shoot as long as you wish or until you run out of images...

Uh, how long was this trip? Or are these from various hiking treks?

This is ridiculous. I love them all, i love the colours.
I hope to make a trip to some mountains next summer myself.

@startdog: Wow thanks. The Ansel Adams remark makes me blush :)

@collierportraits: My final selection is about 90 pics, so I can keep 'em coming :) The trip was great. We did about 3 to 4 hikes, which is new to me. So a max of 12km a day. We only visited the parks (Banff, Yoho, Jasper) for 7 days. The rest we spend at Vancouver Island (1 day) and Vancouver. So quite a short holiday for us unfortunately, but we take what we can get!

They just get better and better @jvdmeij! Many of these look like they're hyperfocal, do you have any advice on your focusing method?
Fuji X Series Administrator · ChrisMarks.com · Space Cadet Photo Blog · Flickr
  • @Christopher: You got to help me with that. How exactly do you mean that?
I used MF for these shots and focussed with AFL/AEL on something far away with the aperture around f/8 and shutter on manual. Hope this helps :)
  • @jvdmeij, another process question for you if you don't mind:

The color in these photos is amazing. I don't know enough to know if it's accurate to call it the white point/balance that's creating the effect I'm trying to describe but I'd say there's a unique tint to each photo that beautifully evokes the atmosphere – literally the quality of the air – of each place. (This is true of most of the photos but I'm thinking particularly of 1, 2, 5, 10, 11, 21, 22, 26, 28.)

I'm wondering if this is something you were able to capture totally in-camera, something you enhanced or goosed in post-process, or something you 'created' entirely in post? Because it's something I'd totally like to learn how to do.
  • @benp5d: Sure, no problem :) I think that most of the color happens in post processing. It does help to make sure that your capture 'in the field' is correctly exposed of course. That way a lot of detail is available in the skies.

In post processing I used about 4 or 5 different Lightroom presets, which I made myself. This makes the processing a hell of a lot easier.

In none of the photos I added elements from other photos, so no copy/pasting skies or something :)

Hope this helps. If not, let me know!

  • Hi
Great set if images I will be leaving my SLR at home for a couple of weeks and only taking my x100 to The Gambia. Thanks for sharing
  • Great stuff - all of them. I am lucky enough to live in Western Alberta and some of your shots (I recogzine alot of your locations btw...) are literally 45 minutes from my front door. Funny how many amazing images one can get with some imagination and a single focal length!!! Well done.
  • Hi @jvdmeij, first and for most you have captured some absolutely amazing photos. The colors and the balance of each photo is quite moving! I have to say Photo 35 is amazing. It looks like a pool of warm Caribbean water!

You mentioned you use Adobe Lightroom to post process your photos and have 4 or 5 presets you've made. Would you ever consider uploading your presets so fellow Fuji X10/X100 members could tinker with them? If not I understand, I just thought I'd ask!

Thank you again for sharing your creativity!
  • Thanks MAN!

You just remind me my summers in Bariloche, Argentina. Same landscape, same mood, same love for the nature and friends. You made my day!!!
  • BTW. gorgeous imaginary...

Not to put down your work at all, because not only does it make me chomp at the bit to get my hands on an X100, but also go on a road trip. Not only that but it's some of the best work I've seen in the gallery on the site. That said... Canada is one of the places where all you have to do is point the camera and shoot and you've got an incredible landscape. That said, you have a great post, and your landscapes are fantastic. can't get over how sharp the images are. Pretty amazing little camera, and even more incredible country!
Do you mind if I ask at what aperture did you shoot most of these?
Thanks for sharing your trip!! Cheers

Didn't look at this thread for some time, sorry about that. I think most are around f/8. you can take a look at my flickr stream for more details.

I do agree that Canada is an amazing country w/beautiful landscapes which makes it easier to shoot stunning pics. Although I have seen much worse ;)

Thanks! I only used Lightroom for these series. I usually start with a good preset and tweak from there. Although most presets are from my own archive.
  • It's already been said, but stunning shots. Very inspiring. You are certainly at one with your x100. Thanks for sharing. Any chance of a copy of your presets for lightroom? Love the post processing, great look and feel.
