Getting a filter on the X100 lens

Recommended Posts

gafer

Ok i'm still not getting the video setup. I just bought a B&W uv skylight 49 mm and have attached it to the x100 filter adapter but I still can;t use the original cap.

In the video they are using a kenko P.L 49mm. I have looked this up and am not seeing anything that is that thick. Am I missing something is there another adapter ring attached to the filter. I have found Kenko UV filters but they are thin.

Can someone explain how I can use a filter plus use the original cap. If not using cap also be able to use hood along with filter.

thanks

No can do. Once you add a filter, or even the "official" Fuji adapter the original lens cap no longer fits. This is because the cap fits around the lens housing itself and not around a 49mm filter.

If you're doing a reversed filter with the original trim ring on the end like in the post above by adanac, then a 46mm lens cap will work.

For folks that like printed instead instructions instead of video Ken Rockwell has a good step by step description on his site:

Scroll down to the "Filters" heading.

I bought the SE which came with a 49mm protector filter. The lens hood fits perfectly over it. However, it won't fit in the case with the lens cap on but quite honestly the protector filter is fine to protect the lens and fits in the case with it on perfectly.

Don't know what all of you guys are on about.

When I first bought my x100 I bought a cheap fake filter adapter and then bought a 49mm UV filter to fit in - much easier and cheaper than trying to do all these reverse filter stuff.

Also my original lens cap fit on easily, AS WELL as the case. Obviously if you put a hood on it wont....but yeah.

I'll put some photos of this when I get home..... dunno what all the fuss is about.

As you can see, the original cap fits over, as well as the case...easily. Fake filter holder, fake case...same result!

You can buy the filter adapter and hood for like $6 off ebay. I bought the hood but never used it, all i wanted was the filter:
