Made in Japan

In the case of the X series "Made in Japan" appears to add to the retail price but does nothing to add quality over competitive products made in other countries. I'd argue that Fujis QC is worse than most of their competitors regardless of the country of assembly of the components. The X series have been plagued with quality issues starting with SAB through dust in viewfinders, dust in lenses, poor fit and finish (light leaks), warping plastic covers, deteriorating grip surfaces, delicate switches and high incidences of unexplained electrical failures. Other manufacturers simply do not seem to suffer these multiple issues in anything like the quantity that Fuji with its relatively low sales numbers in relation do.

One thing Fuji really need to do is lift their QC and if that involves moving assembly out of Japan to somewhere that can provide a better product I would be all for it.

A bit of PR no doubt, but impressive nonetheless to see how these highly complex units are assembled.

Fujifilm has the wherewithal to deliver and will have learned a lot from well publicised issues in the past. It's a brand worth sticking with and seems to be a system with a growing following worldwide. Things can only get better.
