Beetham Tower.jpg

Beetham Tower  is a 47-story building in Manchester, England. The structure is one of the thinnest skyscrapers in the world with a height to width ratio of 12:1 on the east-west façade. It was completed in 2006. In the foreground is part of a very old cast-iron bridge. This shot was taken from the Castlefield Metro station.

Welcome to this forum Chrisyfitz. This is a nice and crispy image. I am not sure if you purposefully increased its contrast or if you used some filter or filter setting as the sky looks unnaturally dark. In any case, the final result is pleasant and certainly grabbing one's attention. I am particularly intrigued by the very old-cast iron bridge in the foreground as I have never seen a bridge or a part of it with such a convoluted shape.

Thank you for the welcome, MarcoDebiasi.

The steel bridge is the 1894 Great Northern viaduct that served the Great Northern Railway's warehouse in Deansgate, Manchester. The high-level tubular steel viaduct is 330 metres in length and has eight spans. It was built for the Great Northern Railway Company and carried GNR goods trains to the company's Deansgate warehouse until 1963. Richard Johnson who was a Chief Engineer of the GNR was responsible for the design. I'll add a couple of photos below to show the rivets on another part of the bridge.

I purposely made the sky dark in order to highlight the whips clouds. This was done in Lightroom using a technique similar to the one used below. If it is not policy to add videos/external links, please delete.
